- Manchester Evening News

Jonathan & Tom Scott

Brothers Jonathan and Tom perform in instrumental combinations which cover the entire keyboard spectrum, including Piano Duet, Piano & Organ, and Harmonium & Piano. Born in Manchester, Jonathan and Tom both studied at Chetham’s School of Music and at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

Tom read Music on the joint course at The University of Manchester, gained the Sir Thomas Beecham Medal for Excellence in his degree, and achieved a distinction in his Masters degree. He made his concerto debut with the Hallé Orchestra, aged 17, with Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.1 at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. This season's concerts have taken Tom on tours across Europe where he has appeared with the BBC Philharmonic and Nigel Kennedy. Tom is also a keen artist and animator who has recently completed commissions for the BBC Philharmonic to create animations to accompany their live classical concerts. His animations are regularly performed alongside orchestras and ensembles world-wide. As a composer, Tom's work ranges from instrumental to acousmatic compositions and audio/visual works, and his music has been performed across Europe and USA. He completed his PhD in electroacoustic composition at The University Of Manchester (supported by AHRC funding) and currently lectures in electroacoustic composition at the RNCM.

Jonathan continued his studies in the USA and Holland, and was awarded the W.T.Best Gold Medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians and subsequently received the Freedom of the City of London. Since 2001 he has been on the keyboard faculty of the RNCM and is Associate Artist of The Bridgewater Hall where he gives a series of popular lunchtime organ concerts which attract audiences approaching 1000. Recent concert highlights include mid-Atlantic performances on Queen Mary 2 and a series of performances as organ and piano soloist at The Royal Albert Hall, London. His recent performance of Copland Organ Symphony with BBC Philharmonic and John Wilson was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and has just been released on the Chandos label. Forthcoming performances include solo concerto appearances with Hallé Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the premier of a new organ concerto by Karl Jenkins for the 2017 Hull City of Culture.

This season
Scott Brothers Duo are performing across UK as well as concerts in France, Germany, Spain and Taiwan.

Scott Brothers Duo have recorded several CDs on their own label to great critical acclaim. The discs have featured regularly on radio both in the UK and abroad, including a recent one hour special edition of BBC Radio 2's The Organist Entertains with interviews and recordings. The duo’s online performance videos have totalled over 2 million views and their latest recording of Duos for Piano & Organ II recorded at Victoria Hall, Hanley was described by Organists’ Review as "…an intensely musical experience where prodigious technique, perfect ensemble and consummate musicianship are to the fore. I cannot commend this CD too highly."
